Skip the Stuff Plus

Join the movement to reduce single use waste in the Florida Keys.

Skip the Stuff

Did you know? In the U.S., 561 billion disposable food service items are used every year, resulting in 4.9 million tons of waste. Americans use more than 36 billion utensils and as much as 142 billion straws each year.

Take the pledge! Skip the Stuff is a Keys-wide initiative led by Monroe County and its partners to help local restaurants reduce single-use plastic waste. Every year, participating businesses pledge to only provide items like plastic utensils, straws, napkins, and condiment packets upon customer request.

This simple shift helps:

  • Businesses save on supply costs

  • Reduce single use waste

  • Prevent debris from entering the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary

  • Contribute to a cleaner, healthier Keys community

Participating restaurants receive promotional materials, community recognition and recognition as a “green business” on the TDC’s new Responsible Tourism Green Business Directory, and the satisfaction of supporting a more sustainable tourism industry.

Join us in making a positive impact, skip the stuff and support a cleaner Keys!

See the impact of single use waste in our community!
