The goal is to have the city of Key West pass and implement a single use plastic straw ordinance which will help keep single use plastic straws from entering our marine environment.
In the summer of 2019, our Florida Keys Chapter activists began advocating for a plastic straw ordinance in Key West. The reduction of plastic straws helps to decrease the need for fossil fuels, which are used for these wasteful and lightweight single use plastics which often end up as litter in our marine environments.
On September 4th, 2019, the city voted to pass the ordinance!
