In 1984, a group of surfers in Malibu, California formed together to protect their local surf break. It was this group that essentially started the Surfrider Foundation. In 1991, the first chapters were founded and Surfrider transitioned into a grassroots activist organization focused on an array of issues, especially those issues threatening the oceans, waves, and beaches that both provide enjoyment and serve as the lifeblood of the planet.

Today the Surfrider Foundation has over 50,000 members and 80 chapters worldwide. Thanks to the Foundation’s environmental, , policy, and legal environmental`experts; these chapters have championed over 500 victories for our oceans and the planet and now The Surfrider Foundation has finally come to The Florida Keys.

Covering all of the Keys, from Key Largo to Key West, The Surfrider Foundation, Florida Keys chapter will join forces with established local Keys based groups. Through collaboration, activism, public education, research, and community engagement; The Surfrider Foundation-Florida Keys will serve to protect and help restore this fragile, and uniquely diverse ecosystem. But we can’t do it without you.

Whether you’re a resident, visitor, or someone who shares our love for this beautiful island chain we call home, when you become a member of Surfrider’s Florida Keys chapter, you become a member of something truly special. We are a passionate group who seeks to protect and maintain not only the Florida Keys, but the dynamic and life-giving ecosystem of the world’s oceans as a whole.
